Would the egr cause.....

Would it cause the car to jerk when cruising? I know its bad and I plugged it. But I still have a problem with it. Does it have to be removed? It only jerks when its hot out. At night its fine. Its not running to hot but I think the opti might be getting heat soak. It is a new opti though. Or could the egr cause this? It idles fine but when I take off its kinda jerky. Its the same at cruising speed.

A stuck open EGR can cause a rough idle and surging during cruise. However, if what you are feeling is sudden and intermittent, it's probably ignition related.

Well I have a new opti, new coil, new wires, and fairly new plugs(10k miles).

is it pulling a code? i know my EGR did something similar and it ran much smoother after i replaced it (althought i can't say how much smoother because i did LTs at the time which cause the car to shake a bit... heh). it was a $70 part and an easy install. may be worth doing just in case. also check for arcing at night. just some thoughts.

I'm gonna replace the plugs but I keep getting the engine light when on the highway. The egr is plugged, do I need to plug both lines going to the egr solenoid? I tried unplugging the elctrical connector and the engine light came on right away.

Just cap the vacuum line at the manifold (the one that feeds vacuum to the solenoid).
