Which would be best?

3.73s or 4.10s? I have a 94 Z28 with a 6 speed. Can you guys give me some examples of MPH:RPMs? I am keeping this car as a daily driver. When I'm done with the engine I want around 400+hp if that matters in choosing a gear. Thanks-Brad

I know most guys will suggest 4.10s, but I had and would go again with 3.73s myself. I've driven in a 4.10 and 4.56 car and those are a little too much for me.

You can use this tool to check the MPH and RPM for different gears.

I've run both 3.73 & 4.10's . It just depends on your Torque & HP & how much racing your doing. On my last Blown 355 I liked the 3.73 but with my new 385 I'm sticking with the 3.42's. In your HP range I would go with 3.73 for the street. It's really comes down to what you prefer cause there's not a whole lot of difference between the 3.73 & 4.10 when your cruising.

So why would you choose to stay with 3.42s with all that power? If you had higher gears it would be faster, right? Is that so you can go higher speeds?

What I mean is if I go with 4.10s is my car going to suck to drive at highway speeds. Is it going to be a huge change from my gears now? I think they are 3.42s, not sure though. I like to drive at high speeds every once in a while and don't want to lose that.

I rarely drive in 5th or 6th now if that matters? I usually stay in 4th even at highway speeds at around 3k rpms. -Brad

If you like to do high speed runs then stay with the 3.42s.
3.73s and 4.10s are basically a drag race gear, they get you off the line better but limit your top speed.
If it were me I would put 4.10s in a 6 speed maybe even 4.33s but I am a hardcore drag racer so top speed does not concern me.

Sorry if I didn't explain better, I like to go around 90-120 mph if I'm racing someone. Will I be able to do that with 4.10s? -Brad

Yes, you can still do those high speeds with 4.10's, but right off hand I couldnt tell you what RPM's I run at those speeds.

90 to 120 would not be a problem.
I know in an auto you would be gear limited with 4.10s I don,t know about a 6 speed though it might still hit 150, not sure.

For my application, 4.11s were the best gear for me. my car is a daily driver that goes to the track every now and then and with 4.11s I go through the traps in 4th gear at ~6000rpm.

At 6800rpm, 4th gear maxes out at ~122mph. This is with stock sized tires, atleast in my car.

3.73's are more durable than 4.10's and the stock rear is weak to begin with. I went with 3.73's and am glad that I did. They seem a better all around gear than the 4.10's and with less risk of breakage.
