No. The AIR pump only runs at startup for a couple minutes to heat up the cat(s). No affect whatsoever on whether the engine runs or how it runs.

Re: Would a bad air pump cause....

I had a check engine light come on and I have had the car to be running smooth and then cut out or I'll go to pass, goose it and it would cut out. The light was for the air pump and there is no more codes coming up. It only does it every once in awhile.... weird... What about bad O2 sensors?

Thanks....

I had our Chevrolet dealer print a report on my Z28 and I found out I have an open recall on the AIR pump. If you still have yours on the car (others just tear it off) I would suggest first checking out if this recall applies to your car.
You should be able to contact Chevrolet through their 1-800 number or contact a local dealer to do a search for you. Good luck!

That's exactly what I did. Took about 30 seconds and saved me around $300 that the dealership wanted to replace the pump.

I have an LT4 and an LT1...both minus the air pump. Both run great, and it just passed Massachusetts State Emissions without it. So I say...save yourself about 5 lbs!

Back on topic...check the opti-crap or fuel pump. If your losing spark or fuel at WOT...that'll do it everytime. Try the basic stuff first and keep us all posted, as we're all willing to help! Is it cutting out at idle or slight acceleration??
