Worth porting lt4 heads on 383, or keep non ported???

i just picked up a set of brand new lt4 heads and lt4 intake, im getting my motor built to a 383 in a week or two with forged crank, pistons, and rods. I will be getting cam, rockers, etc all done also.

Is it going to be worth the money to get the Lt4 heads ported, will they really help out that much with horsepower or do the Lt4 heads flow enough on there own?

Just wondering if porting the lt4 heads will be worth the extra 800-1000 that it will cost.

I am not engine building expert, but it is my opinion that about any factory head responds well to a quality port job. Is it "worth it"? Well that requires a subjective answer. I think so. The engine is apart and now is the time to do it.

If you are like most on this board then, more HP is never enough. If you don't port them now, you will probably wish you did later.

I kept the stock LT-4 heads on my 383 LT-4. And I went with the XE230/236. I am gonna pull it apart and get em ported and get a custom cam made for them. its WELL worth it.

If you port the LT4 heads, you also need to port the LT4 intake. The intake doesn't match the heads at all, and will really strangle the heads if you don't have the intake ported as well. Might also want to have the throttle bores opened up to 58mm, while you can.
