worth it to go from 3.23's to 3.42's

I have a friend that has a 97 Z with 3.23's and now that i have a new rear end i told him he can swap me his 3.23 rear for my old 3.42 rear because i have heard that is the best ratio for an auto car. Is it worth it to go from 3.23's to 3.42's most guys jump from 2.73's to 3.42's. Thanks

I wouldn't do it unless he is planning other engine upgrades later on down the road . If he does a cam and/or TC later it would help though. If he does do it, I would spend the 100 bucks and get a 255lph in tank fuel pump since you have the rear out. That way he wouldn't have to mess with it all again.

I believe he plans on hot camming it later and adding a TQ converter he has headers and cat back right now. Thanks for the reminder on the fuel pump but his car is only a 40k mile SS so i hope his isn't wearing out yet.

If you can do it on an exchange basis for cheap, do it. If it's gonna cost you slightly more, I'd make the jump right to 3.73s. 3.42s are great and all, but once you bolt 3.73s between the axles, you'll wonder why you never did it in the first place.
