you can afford a blower, but not heads? hmm... that doesnt make sense.
I cant afford either right now. I'll be saving up for atleast six months while my car sits in the garage just to afford anything. I might just go with whatever I have money for at the time. Really the main reason I want to FI is because of the elevation I am at. I mean at the local track LS1's run like high 14's and LT1's are in the 15's half of the time. I am under the impression that FI will really help out in that respect.

Yes, FI is the only way to go for high altitude. However nitrous does the same thing for a lot less money.

Im just not sure why you would put all that money in a motor and keep stock heads.

So maybe do a nitrous-ready 383 with a set of good heads?

thats what i did.

budget effective. will make lots of power.

forced induction is way nice, but there are too many hidden costs you dont realize about. fueling system, you need huge injectors, a convertor or aftermarket pcm, fuel system, belts, pullies. Blowing out head gaskets is not unheard of, etc. etc. etc.

You don't need to save up for a blower to get back on the road again. Just get the motor rebuilt, ready for FI. I would do heads now. Blower is a bolt-on. Pulling heads is a pain.

How would my car run (power and drivability wise) if I lowered my CR to 9.0 or so in anticipation of a blower but didn't have one on there?
