worried about new cam - big enough?
I just picked up an XE 230/236 cam, .510/.520 lift@1.5 ratio. I'm a little worried about the lift numbers though, as this is the smallest lift you can get in a 230/236 cam. I know it will be easier on the valvetrain, but is it going to make the power I want? I'm shooting for 400RWHP or so with Lloyds heads and the stuff in the sig. I want to be able to trap around 117 in the 1/4, but is this cam's lift numbers going to hold me back? (I'm using 1.6 rockers, which makes it .544/.555 lift)
it is 112LSA but I have 1 3/4 shorties not LT's. thinking about going 2 1/2 true duals though to open it up a bit. Has anyone else actually used this cam? I don't really see many people with it....
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
The previous responses have been accurate. That cam is as big as you can go in a 350 and still not have some pretty serious cam surge IMO. You should get darn close to 400 rwhp with a dyno tune, cutout, long tubes, etc.

I have the 230/236 with 1.6 like you are considering. I made the numbers in the sig. I think my tune may be a bit conservative, so there may be some more in it. It has a nice sounding lope to it. I managed to scare off a Mustang GT the other day with just the sound of it
.
It runs pretty much like stock at low RPM, but just keeps pulling at harder and harder all the way to the red line. I get a very little bit of cam surge at low load, light throttle, but it's hardly noticeable.

llafro does your car have gears? I just wanted to say our cars are almost identical except the TB and electric water pump. My car was a little sluggish down low before my gears and after them it is an animal. Just thought i would recommend gears if you didn't have them.
