wont idle after motor swap

i am pretty sure it is spark related. guessing the worst.(opti) it had only about 10k on it when i decided to pull the motor and i tried to reuse it. the car actually will idle when it wants to. it even backfires from time to time. checked wires made sure i put them on corectly. im going to double check them before i buy a new opti. any other suggestions?
i ready to get this beast up and running.

Thanks for any help you can give
chris

If the opti was fine before the engine swap, it's probably fine. Double check all your connections, check for vacuum leaks, scan the PCM for unusual readings (i.e. water temp, IAT, IAC, O2 readings, etc).

another thing i forgot to mention is after taking it around the block i will shut it off if. When i start it again it pours out white smoke. i was having trouble with the crossover tube but i think i got that fixed. Im going to check and see what codes im throwing.

thanks chris

Re: wont idle after motor swap

White smoke is caused by coolant in the exhaust system. It could be residual coolant that fell into the exhaust when you drained your block or a bad head gasket. Always check the simple stuff first.
