Won't even run HELP PLEASE

So here the deal, the other night my friend calls me he has a 95 Z28. His car has broken down at the local taco bell. Well to make a long story short here is what it is doing and here is what i have tried. The car would idle but as soon as you gave it gas it would go no where and fall flat on its face. So first thing i thought was fuel, so i hooked up my Fuel pressure gauge and it was reading the normal 40psi ish. So then he remembers that it backfired right before it F'd up. So i figure that maybe the computer was messing up so i installed my ECM and it didn't even want to run with mine so i reinstalled his and then the car decided it didn't even wanna idle. So i check all the intake tract and it all seemed to be fine. So i pulled a plug and checked it for spark which it seemed fine (however it may have only sparked on initial start up) i pulled the tune off the ECM with tunercat and it seemed fine and i ran it throught datamaster and it pulled no codes and everything seemed fine (with some retard on attempted start up 13-5 degreesish) so i pulled the plugs and they were all fuel soaked and the exhaust smells rich as heck. As near as i can figure it is a spark thing but his opti is only a few thousand miles old and the coil is working enough to produce some spark.......basically i am out of ideas and i need some guess and test things i can do to isolate the problem or even some possible solutions. We are both E-3's in the Airforce so we haven't a ton of money to throw at it so any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would check for burnt wires first, if that didnt work id check for vacumm leaks. was it easy to fire? was it spinning fast or slow? Need a lil more info man.

Even though you saw a spark, doesn't mean that you don't have a weak coil. The spart should be able to jump about 3/4". Try swapping coils with another 94/95...your 96 has a different coil.
