Wont crank after 5 mins sitting

Well I drove to sell some text books back and everything was fine, temps were all normal car ran fine. I go in to sell the books back come out not even 5 mins, go to crank the car and it cranked but sounded funny, so I turn it right back off but it keeps turning over like its running but with no spark, so I get it to fire up agian by giving it some gas, it cranked and ran fine at idle for about 3 mins so I deciede to turn it back off and see if everything is ok, it shuts off fine this time, but not it wont crank, it gets power, the fuel pump turns on but nothing turns over.

Any thoughts on what it could be???
I can only think that its either hydrolocked or the starter just went bad for some odd reason

Re: Wont crank after 5 mins sitting

ok well I just went back up there and looked at it agian and tried to fire it up while it was in neutral didnt work, also I found that one of the sets of wires running down to the starter was agianst my headers and it melted through the heat shild(crappy GM heat shield) and also through the plastic bundle but it didnt look like it went through any of the wires so Im still not sure

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks
Kevin

Long tube headers, could this be a typical GM hot start issue?

the car is cool now and it still wont start. I have never had a problem with it starting while it was hot before, even during summer in FL

if you have a good battery and no clicking you should check the starter solinoid on the side of the stater....heat will kill them, also you could give the starter a few taps with hammer to see if you can get it unstuck ...sometimes that works....for a day or two

Im gonna go back up there and try that, and also try turning the crank to make sure its not hydrolock, and a few other things. One of the guys from my car club here who is very knowledgeable about LT1s is gonna meet me up there

Im also gonna take my computer up there to see if datamaster can read anything on it

Well after tryin a few different things like hitting the starter, and trying to jump the car with cables, and recheck all the connections to the battery, we decided to take the start off and take it to Autozone to have it bench tested and it FAILED so I bought a new one pop it on and it cranked the first time, so the starter craped out on me, still dont know what made it "desiel" tho

This car has been in my family since it was new too, my mom bought this car new in Feb '94, she gave it to me last year when she finally got the car she wanted to order but didnt cause of price, she now has a '95 Z28 M6 convertible

Thanks for all the help guys
