Wondering if I should be worried. May have torn up motor

Ok, quick back story. Was driving on the highway yesterday when the accelerator got stuck. Apparently, the pin that holds the pedal to the actual rod bolted to the firewall had come loose a little and got caught on the carpet. When I pushed in the clutch to shift the throttle did not come up, so the RPMS shot up to around 6300-6500 RPMS and hung there for about 2 seconds.(I pulled in to a gas station to fix the pedal) So we continue driving and I notice what seems like a lot of engine noise. Nothing knocking yet, but just a lot of engine noise is the best way for me to describe it.

I changed the oil today and saw what appeared to be some copper shavings in the oil filter. Oil Pressure is showing nothing unusual. Just wanting to get some possible opinions on the engine noise, and maybe the copper in the oil.

Generally, I don't think bouncing off the rev limiter will kill the engine, however....you may have bent a pushrod or two....may not hurt to check them out.

I guess that could certainly be a possibility. I'll start pulling the valve covers off tomorrow if I have time.

Sorry to hear what happened to you. Sounds like a freak situation having that pin come loose & getting caught on the carpet. I definitely need to check that out on my car.

What RPM do you have the rev limiter set to, on your engine?

A forged 357 should be able to handle 6500 RPM for longer periods than that.

I take my 355 to 6850 regularly.

i agree, but any RPM under load is different than the same rpm free-revving.

yea, under load is way harder on the motor.

Umm I always heard that under load is better.. engines arn't made to be revved that high w/ no load.

But 6200 is not that bad. I've missed 3rd and hit 1st for a second or too and the stock LT1 saw near 6800...still runs like it always did..It had low miles like 30k so that may have helped having less worn out valve springs to avoid float.

Finally got around to taking the valve covers off. No pushrods are bent, so I went ahead and did the whole emissions test again. When the engine was cold(for being at least 90 outside) it didn't make the sound, but when it got hot after about 5 minutes I could hear it again. I may try a thicker oil? though oil pressure is fine. still not sure about that copper I saw in the oil

EDIT: it sounds more like an exhaust leak but more so on the passenger side near the bottom of the engine, but I can not for the life of me figure out where. again, only seems to do it when the engine is warm.

Guess i'll start to really get worried if it gets worse*knock on wood*

before my motor drowned i would rev it to 6500 almost everyday on the stock bottom end so i doubt anything got screwed up try checking the header gasket my bolts used to come loose all the time. worth a check and besides if you have nice constant oil pressure the bottom end is probly ok
