Wobbly Steering (NOT rag joint)
Wobbly Steering (NOT rag joint)
My steering wheel has some play in it, a good amount actually. It used to be ALOT worse but i have since replaced the rag joint with the solid peice from www.unbalancedengineering.com which helped a good bit but it is still not what i want. what would be next in line to replace? the tie rod ends? or just the bushings? o yea like a year ago the car spun out while cruising in the rain at 40 mph (lost the back end out of NO WHERE, and panic'd and locked the breaks, spun and hit a curb. steering wheel was like tilted 180* to drive straight lol. got it re-aligned but its never been the same)
Re: Wobbly Steering (NOT rag joint)
I would say you could have broken a ball joint from hitting the curb. Check your upper and lower ball joints for play.
The best way to check might be to put the car up on jack stands and have a buddy push and pull the top and bottom of the front wheels, and also the sides of the wheel, and you look under and see where the play in it is.....you'll probably be able to see which front wheel and which part has the play. Actually, if you can hold the car up by the lower control arms near where the wheel connects (with jack stands under the crossmember) so the front suspension is at "normal ride height", except the car is suspended so you can get under it and move the wheel easily, this will best replicate the problem. But just be careful the car doesn't fall on you.
