Witch Headers???
Witch Headers???
When I first started reading all the differing opinions about headers on this board I was set on getting lt's and doing a true dual setup. Liking the idea of the true dual I went to many muffler shops and asked there opinion. they said it is imposibble to do a true dual on our cars. Knowing they were wrong I told them that I have seen true duals on this board with lt headers. they asked me why I wanted headers in the first place because it would not help me at all. again I know that this is wrong. But finding that no one would help me here I decided to at least get a new muffler for my stock setup. Now the muffler helped, but here is my question. I really want to save for headers but should I get lt or mids and keep my new muffler. I know if I go with lt's I want true dual. I have heard that mids are as good if not better than lt's (by the way I seriously question this.) but I know that it would be a lot easier to do mids and weld that up to the single pipe. What am I gaining or loosing by doing either? (MOST HP) PS I do not race but I want good torque if that means anything.
If it's all about driveability(low end TQ), then LT's might be better. They start to produce increases in TQ sooner than mid's length headers. They also tend to drop off in TQ a little sooner than mids though. This of coarse is comparing equal diameter primaries. (1 3/4")
I chose Mids because I don't want the hassle of long tubes.(plus they are cheaper) I didn't want to worry about scraping the collectors, or fabbing up a whole new exhaust. With mids, I'll get good gains in TQ, but it will be a little higher in RPM than LT's. The good thing is that I can bolt up a normal Cat-back system to the mids and still keep a Cat in the system with no modifications.
Many swear by LT's however.
