Need help picking out heads for build up?

Ok im not going to crazy with this build up but im going to go with new heads and i was wondering which you guys thought would be better either stock LT4 heads or the new edelbrock LT1 heads. Also how much lift can the LT4 springs take?

when it comes to LTx heads there is AFR and then there are the rest. What type of buildup, and how fast do you want to go.

off of edlebrock.com " A prototype set of Edelbrock Performer LT1 heads made about 24 horsepower more than factory-stock LT1 heads and raised the peak power level by 500 rpm." An improvement but not spectacular, maybe you could take better advantage of them with a better cam though. I would imagine some LT4 heads would flow similarly, you may even be better off at that point with some ported stockers for cheaper than either of the other 2 options.

as for LT4 springs, they work for the hotcam at .525 or so lift, but I believe are marginal at best even at that point. dont know how much farther you want to push them, but are you looking to buy springs or do you already have them? If you are buying new, I would imagine you could get as strong of a spring as you think you need for a similar price as the LT4s

If you aren't going to go crazy on the rebuild why not just have your LT1 heads re-worked, Port & Polish, Bigger valves, Springs, etc. You can save some $ . If you get any of the aftermarket heads your probably going to have Port & polish them to get them to there advertised flow #'s anyway.

Thumbs up I agree.....

^^^^^^^ With the above!^^^^^

I am running stock ported heads. Find a good head guy who knows what he is doing. (Please don't read into this!) The $$$ spent having your stockers ported will be well worth it!
