Wiring harness help........question with a picture
Wiring harness help........question with a picture
97 Camaro.......I am going to put a LS1 in, probably go carb'd. I would like to retain the function of the cluster if possible.........but if I have to build a custom gauge cluster that is ok. I pretty much want to retain the functionality of the electrical system (headlights, wipers, horn, etc).
Now my question.........can I do all of this without the need of the engine harness? Below in the picture I have included a couple of areas I have questions with.
Click me for a pic of the harness
The yellow arrow is pointing to 2 junction blocks, which also have a bundle of fusable links. I assume this is the body harness going to the headlights and other electrical equipment?
The red arrow points to part of the harness that goes into the cabin of the vehicle. What wires are these? Can I seperate the engine harness to retain the body harness? Do I need the computer to make all of my gauges, headlights, etc, to work?
Basically I am trying to keep the underhood clean and as wire free as possible. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Wiring harness help........question with a picture
Those two connectors are mostly for engine management. The body harness is on the other side of the car.
What you need is wiring diagrams of both systems, so you can connect the correct circuits to make them work. You can find a lot of the LT1 harness items on my website. LS1 stuff you will have to find elsewhere.

Most of those items are whats needed for the PCM as stated.
If you are going to do a big project I highly recommend getting a factory service manual. I did the opposite, I gutted the lights, ABS, AIR, AC, etc for a race car and kept the PCM, the manual was invaluable. Every single circuit is labeled and diagramed in it. I got my '95 manual for ~$45 shipped from Helms.com, they were on sale. dont' know about '97 manuals.
