Talking Wiper Trouble and Yes I did a search

Hey guys I searched through six pages of wiper motor problems but could not find anything resembling this problem. My cruise control had quit working one day for no reason. I checked fuses and such and couldn't find anything wrong. I live in a dry climate in the summer so I had no need for my wipers until a month later. I went to turn the switch and nothing happened. The only way to get the wipers to work is to turn the squirters on. I thought it was a bad turn signal lever/assembly and I went to a local junk yard today and yanked the one they had out and it would not work either. What could have gone wrong in the steering column to cause this and is there anyway to check and see if it is the lever or not?

Thanks
Todd

Re: Wiper Trouble and Yes I did a search

I had a prob with my cruise control awhile back, after reading I became too scared to open up that lever arm because there is so many things that it does that it can easily go bad. Eventually the CC began working again by itself..... but there is a lot of things that arm does....could be anything

The cruise control arm doesn't control the wipers. The switch for the wipers is actually inside the column. If you look the CC arm has a key on the end of it and that is what locks into the wiper switch and turns the wiper switch on when you turn the CC arm. I had a similar problem and swore it was the wiper switch. My wipers wouldn't work except during the wash cycle and they would automatically pop up to the "ready" position but would never actually wipe. I figured since a new wiper switch was $50+ bucks and looked like a B1tch to install i decided to swap in a spare wiper motor i had laying around. I slapped it in there and the wipers work great now. *Warning* if you do remove the wiper motor make sure you get the rubber mounting bushing back in place right, and tight or the motor will rock back and forth causing the wipers to wonder. I've had just about every type of wiper problem go wrong on this car. I even cut a 2 slits in the black plastic panel that goes around the wipers so i can slip it on and off with out removing the arms to access the motor.
