Angry Wing nuts on cut-outs suck!

Well, I used to have a 2000 Z28 and I put on a cut-out.... within a week, the wingnuts had worked themselves off and I was very close to losing the cap!!.... I ended up putting regular bolts on it and tightening them with a ratchet!

.... So, I thought maybe it was because it was a CHEAP cut-out....

... so on my LT1 "toy" car I bought a Flowtech, nice brand name cut-out, thinking this would have better results... Well, the quality is better for the most part, but finally, after a few miles with it capped up, I lost 2 wingnuts somewhere on the roadway. The third was on by maybe 1 or 2 threads, and I nearly lost the cap!!

WTH? I am just gonna put regular nuts no here, too and use a ratchet to tighten them down.

Am I the only one with this problem??

Thanks,

Michael

They make wingnut wrenches to tighten them down with. Thats what i have always used without problem.

I cant see them staying on only being finger tight b/c of all the vibrations and heat.

... Then why bother using wingnuts... the function of a wing-nut is so you can tighten them by hand....

If you're gonna use a wrench, just use a regular hex nut...

I tighten mine down with my big d*&%beaters and they never come lose. Stayed tight for a 600 mile trip even. You just have to really wrench them down, thats all.

I guess everybody is missing the point Wingnuts are hand-nuts.... they're meant to be tightened by hand. Why do they put them on cut-outs if they won't stay on when attached by hand??...

If they need to be wrenched down, why don't they include HEX nuts, and then it'd be obvious that you need to use a wrench

I put a cutout on my car and put 6,000 miles on it afterwards. Lost 1 wingnut in that time.

Oops, sorry. "Wrenched down" was figurative, bad choice of words. I tightened them by hand.

I only cap my cutout for the trip home to Yankeyville, bleeding heart liberal, too many damn laws Maryland. It is uncapped when I am at school, and my car is quieter than most.

No problems here for miles, just eat your spinach.
Or do what everyone else does and switch to bolts, and just keep a wrench in your glove box.

Back when I first got my Flowtech 3" for the Z, I used the wingnuts all the time. Had no probs, and I tightened them fully by hand.

I got another brand, 2.5", for my Caddy and lost SEVERAL wingnuts on it.

So, I guess it varies!

Now that I have a DMH on the Z28, no more wingnuts...
