Will a tune make that much difference?

I just installed the Comp XE 224/230 112 LSA cam. I also put in a 2600 stall at the same time. The car ran a bit faster than my best with stock cam and converter but barely! It went 13.11 @ 105 with the new stuff and 13.17 @ 104 all stock with bolt-ons. The only programming I have done is with a Power Programmer Plus. Will a MadZ tune make that much difference? I was really hoping for at least a 12.99 after all that work and expense!!!!!!!!!

A tune from either MadZ28 or PcmForless will make a world of difference.

Find someone to tune your car on a dyno.

I think your stock exhaust is a choke point maybe? You dont have an aftermarket catback?

Yes,
No doubt the stock exhaust manifolds and y-pipe are hurting upper hp. I did hollow out the cat and removed the muffler at the rear.

yea, u probably should have done headers first.....if I were you I would wait until I do headers and then get a real DYNO tune. You'll definitely gain from a mail-order tune, but with a cam a dyno tune is best.

I know you are right, I just don't have the $ for a dyno tune! Mail order will have to do for now.

Re: Will a tune make that much difference?

When I put the hot cam in my car a awhile back, it was running 107.xxMPH in the 1/4 on the stock tune consistently. When I got it tuned, it ran 111.xxMPH consistently..... I got a 5mph increase, which is ~ 40HP. So I would say yes.

Mine was a mail order tune from MGF racing. Back then I had a 52mmTB, Hot Cam, and SLP shorty headers with a hooker cat-back.

Re: Will a tune make that much difference?

I saw my buddy pick up 15rwhp on the dyno with additional tuning. To begin with he had a PCM4less tuning. So there is a lot of HP in the tune if he picked up 15rwhp over a tune originally made for his cam. By the way it was a 224/230
