will standard oil pump work for what I have done to my car?

Alright I completely rebuilt my motor with forged internals, new bearings, 306 cam, and new STANDARD melling oil pump. I plan on spinning my motor between 6200-6400 rpms. Will this standard oil pump with the regular spring, NOT the white spring, work for this rpm range I plan on using? Thanks for any help.

Re: will standard oil pump work for what I have done to my car?

Honestly I have read more reports about "performance" pumps contributing to engine damage than engines needing performance pumps. The smallblocks oiling system is pretty good and when people go to for instance a high volume pump if they sustain high rpms too long all the oil can end up in the topend without adequate time to drain back down. They "why not upgrade" mentality has hurt a few motors on this front because people don't always do research and find out what really constitutes an upgrade.

The stock pump (blueprinted, tack-welded pickup) with the white spring has "supported" my 800HP nitroused 381 for about 5 years. Redline is 7,400rpm. A buddy of mine ran a 1,125HP 383 with over 20# of boost, 8,000rpm redline with the stock pump and the white spring. The standard pump and standard spring should be adequate for 6,400rpm.
