Will single plain intake fit under our hoods???
Will single plain intake fit under our hoods???
Hey guys some of you may now But I am building a 396 with some ported 195 AFR's and a new XFI custom grind cam. I have been debating Intake manifolds however. I am about 2 days from pulling the jump for the PORTED LPE Superram intake manifold, a 1,200 investment then I have to buy a TB to match it. I found this on the LS1tech.com forum

The guy here has a 396 with a Single plain conversion that he says will fit under his SS hood. I understand there may have to be some cutting on the Winshield cowl though that should be no big deal for anyone. How much would somthing like this cost. I have heard that Brett Buaer has been working with these.
Heres my question how many people has done this, IS there definate power increase in HP and TQ how high would I have to rev the motor, WILL IT INDEED fit under the hood.( I just don't want to have a 3-4 inch hood)
This car is MY DAILY DRIVER AND I WANT STREETABLITLY to be fairly well.
Thanks for any help. I have heard a 300CFM head with a 383 with a single plain could make 600HP NA, is this true???

Re: Will single plain intake fit under our hoods???
Yes it would make a lot of power. But the stock intake with porting and a mono blade will probably perform the same. To make 600hp you will need bigger heads than 195AFRs in my opinion.
The problem is a 600hp 383 could never be consittered a streetable daily driver unless your using nitrous for some of that power.

Re: Will single plain intake fit under our hoods???
well 600 is a loaftly number, I think for my setup 450RWHP-500RWHp range will be my goal. Considering a drivetrain loss it would take about 515RWHp to Equal 600HP. I think one would be suprised in Driveability of 600 HP. Then again 330CFM heads HELP ALOT compared to MY 300CFM head.

As far as a Stocker ported and a Monoblade 1300 CMF TB Being just as good as a Super vic with a 90MM TB flowing in the 1350 range. NO WAY. EVEN speaking of PEAK NUMBERS the Single plain will Top it, WERE not even talking about the midrange curves and Vast amount of TQ increase at peak and throughtout the RPM range. A nice ported LT4 intake will flow at best at 270 a Victor will flow 320+. The Super vic has longer runners and more plenum volume, and of course ultimately flows alot better for high breathing heads (280 CFM heads or better) A Given Example you want. I just got done talking to ED Wright (Fastchips) his car with a HR 383 AUTO made 474RWHP with a LT4 topend with a HIGHLY MODIFIED LT4 INtake (top cut off, for max effort job) he said not one square inch was NOT touched. IT matched with a 275 Flow with the heads bolted on.
Hot Rod Hawk as a 355 Auto with a HR and ported LT1 castings and made 505 RWHP using a Single plain setup.
ED did put a SR cam on his car and made 508RWHP.
SStrokerAce will be the first to tell you CAM design is vastly different when going from a LTX intake to a Single plain, but a gain of 30-50 HP and that amount of TQ and still have a better midrange is going to make something a hella alot Faster IMO
