I don't think so, but you can always find out.

I've taped off the hole for the egr before and just let the tube sit there, no ses. My air pump has blown fuses before and no ses.- The only problem with the pump is if it's not working right and hasn't been programmed out it can make your fans start doing crazy stuff, like turning on and off while your engine is still cold, like below 100. - I've had that one happen to me...

It's pretty hard to get an obd1 car to turn on the ses light, mine's never done it before, even with opti going and detonation bad enough to make the car shake.

If you don't plug the holes in the intake manifold where the EGR connects, nor the holes in the exhaust manifold where the AIR connects, you will have massive vacuum and exhaust leaks. Your engine will run so poorly that it won't make any difference whether the SES light is on.

Why not do the job correctly?

Removing the AIR pump on an OBD-I car will not set a code as long as there is a good fuse in the circuit. Disableing or removing the EGR in an OBD-I car GENERALLY does not set a code.... but it is possible. But you need to "plug up the holes".

Did a little experimenting today. I plugged the vacuum feed for the EGR solenoid, so the EGR valve could not open when commanded by the PCM. Did about 45 minutes of driving with most of the miles on the freeway, but some stop and go, too. I did not get a SES until I was going through some neighborhood streets where the speed limit was below 35, but I did get the SES (and this is with OBD-I). So OBD-I is capable of throwing the code.

The SES went out after a couple minutes, though. I confirmed it was for the EGR, as I had a scanner in the car with me.

I'm not trying to say anything in particular, just providing my observation.
