Will a miss thorw a code?

Will a miss throw an SES light on a OBDII car? If not, what's the best way to detect a miss? I'm having a hard time figuring out if I have a miss or if my engine is just running rough. Every once in a while the engine will kind of "jump", or shake. Thanks for any info.

yes it will i have a ses code for a random/multiple misfire the code is a p0300 just in case u were wondering
