Will this make a good project car?

I saw an add today for a 93 Z for sale for $800. The car is complete but does not run. Owner says that it was overheated, I'm guessing severely since it won't run. It has fairly low mileage, 96XXX, pretty good for a 93. The body looks in good shape. I think the chassis alone would be worth $800. If all that is wrong w/ it is the overheated motor, can the block and heads still be used, or will they be garbage? I know this depends on how bad the damage is, but I don't know.

I am going in halves w/ a buddy of mine to build a budget (we're in college) drag car, track only. I think this would be a good starting point. What are yalls' opinions? I am planning on going to take a look at it this evening and possibly buy it, if I get some good feedback.

depending on how hot it got the heads could be warped......
but those are cheap. You can get a working LT1 block for around 700 complete.....

heads could be warped or cracked

depending on how long it sat the motor should at least be refinished

all in all i would say a good solid roller is worth 800 though

The motor is definitely going to get rebuilt, more than likely stroked, but I am just worried that the block might not be usable. I guess, like others have said, a block and set of heads can be bought for cheap.

Sounds like a fine deal to me, but if i were going to make a track only car i probably wouldnt pick a 4th gen if i was on a budget.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I gave 800 for my engine, harness, and computer alone. Which I thought was a good deal. So 800 for the whole thing would be great. Pull that motor and builld it like crazy, you'll have a super fast car with not a whole lot of money. Go for it
