will loose rockers cause engine breakup at 6K?
will loose rockers cause engine breakup at 6K?
Hey guys I have had my xe 224/230 and 1.6 roller rockers installed for about 2 weeks now. Well i had the rev limiter set at 6500 with intentions of shifting at 6200. Well once it hits 6K it seems like i am hitting the rev limiter in every gear. I thought it was only in first, but it is all gears. I contacted the guy you programmed my computer to make sure he reset the rev limiter and he did.
My question is: My rockers are loose and making alot of noise. I am going to readjust them this weekend. But i was wondering if this would cause the engine to missfire/breakup?
thanks
Tom
BTW i did replace the springs with combination motorsports 612 springs.

Unless they're real loose, I don't think it would cause misfiring at 6K.
I would have the program double checked to make sure the limiter was set at 6500. You might try running it up to 6K at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle (light load) to see if it actually cuts off at 6K like it would with the limiter. If it goes past 6K then it's not the limiter.
I would look at the spark plugs, Opti, burnt plug wires, plug boots not snapped all the way on the plugs, coil, coil wire (this gets corroded sometimes where it goes in to the coil) or anything else that would suck a lot of energy at high RPM.

With the low lift of the 224/230 (.536/.544) and the 612 springs he should be fine as long as they're not a "stock replacement."
For comparison, I've got Comp springs good to .600 on mine, and still experience the break up. Sorry, can't remember which number they are.
