will i get any lope out of a hot cam?
will i get any lope out of a hot cam?
Plan on doing a cam swap this summer after my transmission gets rebuilt by t56rebuilds.com, I was wondering if I plan on going ahead and gettin my heads ported and polished later on down the road, should I go with a hot cam or another cam that would maybe make more power? Keep in mind I need to not have the SES light on because I need to pass emissions...and does the hot cam have any lope, and does neone maybe have a vid to see how their LT1 runs with it Thanks!

here in NJ with an obd2 vehicle(96+) there is no sniffer, just a readiness check of the pcm and a visual check for cats, and if you're unlucky you get the visual check under the hood for emissions equipment(AIR, EGR)
any tuner will be able to delete any codes that the pcm throws out in order to make you pass

Yes, the hotcam does have a nice lope to it....check out this site for some sounds of the hotcam.

go bigger, go bigger, go bigger especially if your getting ported heads. For everyone that’s going to argue with me that knows nothing about this cam.. I'm running the hotcam right now. I have the LE1 cam sitting in my room ready to in
Re: will i get any lope out of a hot cam?
I have a hotcam and personally did not want much lope so I had my car tuned accordingly. However, if you want lope I have heard plenty of hotcam cars with a decent amount of lope. It depends on where your idle is set. Lower equals more lope, high idle is more like stock. Whoever tunes your pcm will be able to work with you to get you your desired lope. Good luck!
And as far as "this cam is too small" comments, it is all personal. I couldn't be happier with my hotcam because I did not want an aggressive cam and I am very happy with the output that my set-up has in terms of being a daily driver and reliability. Make sure you get the cam (or any part) that is RIGHT FOR YOU!

TY for the correction. For a DD. I wouldn't run more then a 114 LSA.. BUT.. If you spead out the duration to say 210/230 and run a 114 LSA. You'll have much less overlap and a better idle.

Lordy, if you tune it right the Hotcam will sound stock as it should. It is not a big cam but will provide a very nice boost over the stock cam. Provided you are willing to run up to about 6400rpm and shift a bit beyond.
Proper tuning will make 'er sound stock while surprising your idiot friends with CC306's and stock heads.
