ive talked to many people about coils, i HIGHLY recommend you dont buy a performance coil because an msd and accel sent out a higher electro output, which helps a little but it kills your opti's lifespan quite alot. it burns up the electronics inside of it, and everyone i know even alot of drags lt1's with opti setup just recommend stock coil, its what id recommend bro

 

that should be for a 93-95 single connector, your 96 is a dual connector, so without changing something it won't work on your car.

But I'm in need of a bigger spark, I got a good opti, 8.5mm wires, and some good plugs. Gonna get TR6's but don't know where to gap them at and if it will help and what the hell is indexing the plugs? I just need more fire power lol but not from a hot plug. Someone told me a coil is the best way.

 

i think that's true, but to what degree is the question.

 

Unless you're spraying, I'd run the tr55's at .050.

Indexing is when you point the "open side" of the plug a certain direction(i think towards the exhaust valve, but i'm not sure it may depend on the situation).

 

That pretty much falls into the "urban legend" category. Lots of people (including myself) have been running aftermarket coils and even aftermarket ignition boxes for years without any problems.

 

That's what I thought indexing the plugs was. But what does this accomplish? Better combustion? I agree that aftermarket coils are a well spent dollar. So if I don't spray can I still run TR6's w/ .50 gap and be as good as TR55 @ .50. I seen something saying for every 50HP over stock decrease it by .004. Is that true? So I should gap at about .42 or sumtin? But with NOS around .35.

Yup, that's what it is. You want the open part of the plug facing the intake air charge.

Most people say it does next to nothing, and I agree. Isn't the TR6 a colder plug than stock plugs? I don't know why you'd go colder if you aren't spraying nitrous, but yes the above plugs and gaps will work.

 

Is the Delco rapid fires stock heat range? The number I think is 14 on the plug.
