Will this car last?

I am a fairly new driver that is looking for a car (I've been driving for like 3/4 of a year and the honda im using now is about to die). I would like a reputable car that will run. I have been looking at mostly imports but I thought I'd give camaros and trans ams a quick look over since they are quite common (Plus I always wanted a camaro when i was young). Thanks in advance for reading this post, It really helps me out to have someone knowledgeable to talk to. If you want to talk on aim, my sn is phenomic69.

I was looking at some trans ams today in a parking lot and a cool guy pulled up to a light and he's like "Hey want to buy mine?". I told him to pull in.

He had a black 97 camaro. It was a z28 with the lt1 v8 5.7l engine (I believe it is a corvette engine). It has 30th anniversary edition seats but the seller said that it might not be the 30th edition . It is in perfect condition on the outside(very sharp) and the inside only needs new rugs. Although it is a z28, it has all the parts of an ss (put in afterwards) except the ss hood and transmission. It already has upgraded headers, a nice quad exhaust, chrome rims, and new tires. I am not sure but it might have somewhere between 320 and 370 hp (please correct me on this and can you give me an estimation on 1/4 mile and 0-60 speeds). I drove it and it drove smoothly, turned and braked well as far as icould tell.

It has an alpine stereo put in that sounded good (Sub and amp were taken out) and had keyless entry. He had the legal documents and carfax in the car. It had no accidents, had some routine tuneups, and no odometer fraud.

The only problem is this car has more miles than I was hoping for. I have been looking at cars with under 50,000 and It has 112,000 miles and its goin for about 6,000$. This thing is definentaly a rice eater but I need to know if anyone thinks it will make it past 200,000. I drove it and it seemed to drive smooth and he is including a hypertech reprogrammer. So, do you think this car will last and how fast do you think it is. Im not really looking for speed in a car but this one has it as an added bonus. I know camaros have good reputations and my parents really like it. If i get it, i will have a great looking car that has good safety ratings, lots of interior space (compared to other coupes), that chicks like, and it's fast as a sidenote (My parents really like it as well).

I saw the oil and it was clear. The engine was very clean. I will take it to a mechanic as well. So basically do you think that this car can last me or should i keep looking? I would need it to go at least to 200,000. My parents just did a big business endeavor so they told me to get something cheaper now and in a few years when the business goes well, I will be able to get whatever I want. It seems likea great deal for such a nice camaro.

Lt1 engines last a long time, 200k is possible with proper maintanance. Youll probably have to replace the opti sooner or later but thats commom. At 112k the engine should still run really strong strong, ive seen stock lt1 with 170k+ miles run 13.9-14s without a problem.

Re: Will this car last?

well you sounded exactly like me

i used to have a 98' honda prelude
it was a fun car to drive, had some hop to it, VTEC sounded real nice, and it was a 5 spd.

it had about 90K on it but it wasn't stayin together, broke alot of stuff in it,

the clutch master cylinder i broke TWICE, i can drive stick its just this thing is weak.

my mom wanted me to get an american car soo bad. i was like ok its gotta be a camaro or T/A. im not sellin the lude to get a 6 cyl i want the 8.

so we went and looked at alot of them and i found a 95 Z28 with only 45K!

had to get it, and i do have to say it is F'n sweet. its fast, fun to drive, and has stood up to everything i could dish out. it is loaded has a NICE sounding factory system. i would have to say, get out of the imports and try some american muscle, if you knew me, a camaro is the complete opposite of what i would drive but this thing changed my mind. I love it

I say go for a Z or formula or T/A. you will not be disappointed.

O and by the way

Yes chicks do dig these cars

The SS had the same transmission. It had a different hood, wheels, spoiler, ram air and shocks.

Re: Will this car last?

I was told that the ss comes only in a manual transmission, this one is an automatic.

Re: Will this car last?

SS comes in both auto and 6-speed manual. Real SS's have a numbered plaque on the center console. All '97s are considered 30th Anniversary models, with a embossed 30th anniversary logo on the seats the white with orange stripes, with white leather seats cars are Special Edition 30th Anniversary models and around 3,000 were made in Z28 (mostly) and SS (rarely) form.
