If it was stuck open, yes.

I have been getting an EGR code and in the past week or so at idle RPM's have been jumping as much as 300 rpm. Is there any advantage to just removing it or should I just replace it?

There is no real performance advantage as far as I am concerned. You could try taking it off and cleaning it or perhaps the EGR solenoid is broken and keeping the valve open all the time.

There's a recall on the EGR valve. Check at a dealer.

SOmeone else also said there was a recall in this forum, but I called two dealerships, and they both insist that there is no recall.

AFAIK, there is no "recall" on the EGR system, just a TSB update--which is only information for mechanics if they need to repair a car (what to look for, etc.).

Unhappy

Dam*! I looked at it, and I just don't think I can get back there to take it off. I can barely fit my had back there, yet alone get a good look at it. I don't see how I could even get a wrench back there. My SS strut tower brace makes it even worse.

I just replaced mine and it is a pain in the ***, but it is easiest laying down on the engine and coming in from the drivers side.

Oh, by the way it did not solve my problem. See other post

Remove the STB and the EGR solenoid and you will have enough room to see and get in there.
