Will adj. pushrod hold up to spring pressure?

I have a TFS-9000 adjustable pushrod and my plan is to use it with full
spring pressure which is 140 closed and 320 open, or 224 and 512 when
you factor in the 1.6 rocker arm. Although I'm only turning the crank a
couple of turns by hand, this seems like a lot of pressure for the cheezy
little adjustable pushrod. Will it hold up?

Yes, but the proper way to use the adjustable PR is in conjunction with a super soft test spring.

all you need is a spring with enough tension to hold the valve up. I picked up one from my local hardware store for 25 cents.

This is what I did, Mike. Worked great.

Thanks for all the replies again. I'm just going to buy one Comp 7939 pushrod
to use for checking. I can get one for $14 from the local speed shop and worst
case is I won't use it. I don't want to be messing around with removing springs
now that I just finished assembling the heads.

I have a stock block, .029 Impala gaskets, maybe .015 milled off the heads,
so it's going to be a 7.15" or 7.20" pushrod. I should have thought this through
a bit more and I could have just bought a 7.15 pushrod instead of the checker.

It's kind of like my c-clamp style valve spring compressor that I bought many
years ago and never used until yesterday when I assembled the heads.

It's going to be close to either of those - just depends what pattern is closest to optimum. I'd bet 7.200" will be fine.

I am very confident the 7.200" will not work. I have LE2 heads with around .010" decking, 1.6 pro-mags and .039" head gasket and I need 7.00" for perfect geometry.

On my stock motor/heads I needed 7.050" with my 1.6 pro-mags for proper geometry.

Push rod length is a funny thing so do it right the first time or pay.

If it's a double spring how about just using the inner spring?

True. No decking and smaller head gaskets will make it different than yours and mine.

I have a full set of NIP Comp double springs w/ titanium retainers and I would be leary of using the center spring for this. I used a $.050 soft spring from Ace hardware.

In a few years I am going to pull the PAC behives and install the double springs.

Yes, this is an option and probably what I will do if necessary. The inner
spring is 135#/in. rate so it should work fine.

After all of this I just realized that I have longer valves. Can you say
"STUPID". What a waste of brain wattage when using bad data for the
analysis. It's called back to the drawing board. So now it's .035 shorter
assembled height, plus longer valves (I'm assuming +.050 but need to check).
