I've seen things posted before but can't remember which cluster will work in
the '95's. I believe its a straight swap with the '97 but can't remember.
I'm pretty sure I remember that the '98's + won't work w/o some
modification. Just wondering b/c I can pick up a '97 cluster cheap.

I don't believe so but not 100%....

 

From what I know the 97 cluster will work in the 94-96 cars. 98+ will work but not all the gauges will read right. I've read on here before that the 97 one works just fine. I'll find out soon because I'm getting one. If you find out before I get mine let me know.

 

From what I have been told you have to get one with zero miles and have the dealer program in your amount of miles. Either that or just find one with your exact miles or more tan when ever you had your last inspection. You dont want to have any odometeter fraud.

The second run of production were digital.

My 97 has a mechanical odometer.

 

I'm wanting to put in a digital one. That's what I was wondering about.....I heard the PCM keeps the mileage and when you put in the '97 cluster, it automatically sets the odometer to the right mileage. Can anyone verify this???

 

From what Derek tells me, once the cluster recieves so much as a tenth of a mile, it is permanatlley locked. So you have to find a brand new one and have the dealer program in the right amount of miles.

 

97 Gauges do work in a 95, and all of them read properly.
The mileage, You can either find one with close, or settle with dealing with the differences.

 

There are places that can adjust mileage on clusters...granted I don't know if they'd do it for you, but if a dealership replaces your cluster, they send it to a place and tell them what mileage to put in it.

Dude!!! You're the first I've heard of to do that to a 93. How easy was the swap, and have you considered the LG Motorsports 200 MPH kit yet? That's what I want to do, but don't know if we can being "lowly" 93's! Lemme know, thanks.

Dude its easy as hell, I don't see why you couldn't do the 200 mph thing. You pull the panel off unbolt the original gauge and bolt the new one in. IT HAS TO BE A 97!!! If you have any other questions I'll answer but it was quite easy. I had to be the geniea pig

 

Ok. Just to update everyone! I bought the dash out of a '97 Trans Am and put it in my '95 T/A. It was a direct swap out and everything is working fine. HOWEVER, '97's had a TCS light and it stays on all the time. (Can't just take the bulb out b/c its soldered to the board) I guess you could clip it but I'm not too worried about it right now. Also, the seatbelt light is also on even when you have the seatbelt clipped in. Other than that, everything is ok. The odometer works fine and the digital mileage is the mileage from the dash, not the PCM. All in all, I like the '97 dash better than the '95 dash.
