Will a 96 PCM work in my 95?

Will a 96 PCM work in my 95?
Just temporarily. I'm trying to diagnose my cars erratic, unbelievable backfiring and sudden dieing. My buddy has a 96 T/A and I wanna bolt his PCM into mine to make sure my computer isn't fried. I had sent it out to Ion only 2-3 weeks before this started. Its probably the opti, but the car does some really weird things like injectors pulsing when the car is off and tach needles moving when the car is off. So I wanna make sure.

You can swap a 96 PCM in a 95. It will set a service engine light due to a number of missing things, but it will run fine. It would be nice if his was a 6 speed too though.
Also, do this temporarily and only if you run premium since the OBDII uses a different knock sensor and swapping it into your car will pretty much disable the knock sensor.

95 will NOT work properly in a 96. While the 96 will not set a knock sensor code on the 95, the 95 will set a knock sensor code in a 96, thus retarding timing to the max and make the car run real rough.

They are both 6-speeds and we both (he better) only use 93 octane. I was just planning on putting my 95 into his 96, easier that way. Unless I have to swap his into mine.
Okay, i guess i'll have to use his. I'm only gonna idle the car. It use to be my car would have to warm up, then it would just suddenly die. Then i'd restart it and it would run terribly then die. Plus with the key in the on position, the injectors would inexplicably pulse. Now it'll do all this much quicker, within 5 minutes maybe. Its been a downward trend. I ruled out fuel pump using a gauge, although i'm gonna do it again to make sure.

You can't swap a 95 PCM into a 96 car without changing the knock sensor in the 96 or modifying the 95 PCM to accept the 96 sensor. You will have to swap his into yours.
