we think it has a blown head gasket

but it has 205,000 miles on it.

and the 95 has 8,000 miles.

It will work as long as you transfer the things the 96 uses to the new engine.

Physically, they are identical engines. The differences:

-crank position sensor (96 only), with different timing cover (96 has hole for crank sensor) and crank hub length (96 is shorter to allow for CKP reluctor)

-knock sensor resistance (96 is 100Kohms, 95 is 4.5Kohms)

-vacuum switch for EVAP purge detection (96 only)

-drivers side exhaust manifold (96 has large triangular flange for the cat to connect to)

I just noticed this about my setup too. Taking the timing cover off and my rebuilt engine has a keyed crank whereas the 96 did not have a keyed crank. anyone know if i can get my 96 crank hub keyed?

All the factory LT1 cranks have a keyway. No year had a keyed hub from the factory. I think Thunder Racing sells a keyed hub. Look under the supporting vendor index.
