I hooked a scanner to my car and when i plugged it into the port under the dash it did not power on like it is supposed to. I know it was the right scanner and everything bc my friend has his 95 6-speed sitting in my court and after it didnt work on mine we tested it on his and it worked fine. So something is for sure wrong with my port and is not powering on the scanner, anyone have any ideas what might be happening??

 

Anyone, I know someone has to have an idea. Shoebox????

 

Thats odd that it worked in your friends 95, I have a 94, we had to run teh scanners power source from the battery.

 

I dont know what the heck is going on with it. I was having alot of trouble with my car at the time and it didnt power on and I was like oh god can anything else go wrong here. But heck i dont know, it runs alright for now, it just runs rich and I wanted to find out for sure. Anyone have any ideas???

 

What kind of scan tool is it?

 

If the scanner you are using needs power from the DLC, check the cigar/horn fuse. It provides power to cavity 16. Otherwise, you might have an open to one of the other terminals.

 

I cant really recall. Really i wouldnt think it would matter? If it worked on my friends car then it should work on my car no questions asked right??

 

Read what Rob said. If your car isn't getting +12V to the terminal in the ALDL connector, it isn't going to power up.

 

Auto Xray has a bug in some of their scan tools which will stop it from working with some cars, while it will work in others, even the same model and year cars. This is in their older tools. Think it has been corrected in the latest tools. Also some tools are battery powered, and weak batteries could also cause that. If it is powered from the car's connector, do what Shoe and Fred say.

 

Now that i recall, my cigarette liter never worked either. So whats that mean??

Alright guys good news There wasnt even a fuse in the spot for the horn/cigar so i put one in there and hello we have a horn now
