I understand they did this to indicate pump failure, but what has actually failed in the pump? Because when they go, it's just the weap hole leaking, not the actual pump seal/bearing. So if the pump seal/bearing isn't leaking, what has failed in the pump?

lol...thats a good question. The only thing that would go out would be the turbines or whatever you call them inside. But i don't think it would weap if those went out. So i really can't say. Anybody???

it's a warning sign that to much play in the bearings and the pump wont last much longer. So if you see coolant driping out replace it very soon or your opti will hate you for it

they say do it as soon as you see it leaking. Hell mine was leaking for 2 weeks and I thought it was a hose cuz a clamp was loose. I did a maintence check on everything before I left for FL and I tightened a loose clamp. I drove all 4 1/2 hours to FL and drove around in spring break heat and traffic for 3 days. When I went to leave Sunday I see that its still leaking and get under it to look. Its weeping! Well nuttin I can do now and drive 4 1/2 hours back to LA and go another week before I get a day off to get to it.
I never had a problem with it overheating or anything else except the water lost

Mine leaked on and off for a while before I replaced it (did not know where it was coming from) . I was on a 2000 mile trip when I realized what it was. Made it back with no problems, no overheating. Just kept the radiator full.

I think they do it just to make the opti crap out on you so you have to pay another 280 bucks for a new opti when replacing the WP.

At least thats my theory.

<----- Had his water pump kill his opti.

Cool

I drove mine for a Looong time without knowing it was even leaking... When I pulled the engine apart to rebuild, the bearings literally fell out onto the ground along with what was left of the seals...
