The best thing to have when taking on a project like that, is a freind that's done it before. If you don't have that option just take it slow, use the search option, and refer to your manual.

I've got that, my buddy works at a local GM Performance shop here, but with all the hurricanes and what not lately he hasn't had time to come over and finish it up with me.

Also make sure you have a metal dowel or bolt for your balancer puller because of the weird flange put inside the balancer hub.

Just remember...if it were easy everyone would have a cammed LT1.

It seperates the men from the boys.

Re: Why is there so nuch to do...

When I first put my 383 together I used the CC 224/230 XE cam, my best mph with it was a 112 mph (3750 # race weight) I later added the GM 847 havent had it properly tuned and it ran a best mph of 116.2 mph I average in the 115 range, my best ET n/a so far with the 847 cam is a 11.92 @ 115.4 mph. It has alot left in it.

once you have all the parts and tools ready, its a days worth of work.
i actually find it kinda fun... alot more rewarding then the more boring things, like valve seal changes, fuel pump swaps, ect....

Re: Why is there so nuch to do...

Well if you are seriouse, I have pretty much the whole thing to do... only really worked on it for a bout 4 hours total.

Things that are already of the car:

opti
waterpump
fans
radiator
valve covers
driver side head
intake manifold
driver side exhause manifold
o2 sensors
timing cover
timing chain and gear
oil pan is almost off (doing an oil pump aswell)
y-pipe

I think thats about it, there is still alot to do, but ohwell, it'll get done eventually.

Re: Why is there so nuch to do...

Go ahead and mark your hood latchs position and let it hang as well, gives you that extra inch on the cam install. (that is with a buddy holding the condenser out of the way.)
