Why is there so much play in the throttle?

I have a 93 Z with loose throttle too. If I push the pedal all the way to the floor and have a buddy sitting under the hood, he can still move the throttle open another inch. I would guestiumate the throttle only opening up about 80-85% at WOT. I was thinking about triming a 1/2 or more off the pedal side of the cable and recrimping it. Is this a wise idea? I hate the pedal travel being SO close to the floor.

I had the same problem with my 93Z28. All I did was to take a few washers and use them as a spacer to tighten the throttle cable and it has worked great for over a year. I will see if I can get pics. It only takes about 5 minutes to put in the spacer.
