why reprogram a4 after installing a 52 mm tb??
LMFAO!!
OK if you guys say so
a 52mm WILL do the same damage it just takes a little longer.
I LOVE to see you guys in the shop telling me how it is "OK" because it was only a 52mm. Hehehehe
As to WHY? the reason is the entire transmission table is based off of TPS and VSS. the Pressure table is writen off the same sensors plus the TOT sensor.
The PCM knows at XX% of TPS the motor should be making XXX amount of HP/TQ and rises or lowers Pressure accordingly. This is the ONLY info the PCM has to control pressure. Now theise numbers are low but numericaly a 52mm is 10% larger and a 58mm is 20% larger but delivers even more then that percentage in air at the same throttle openings. basicly you are putting more power into the trans then the PCM knows about and it does not give the proper amount of pressure to hold the clutches and band under that load.
I can not count how many people from this Board and locals into the shop has have killed a transmission over a 52mm TB...after all it was supposed to be ok and it just HAD to be the crappy trans that went out...yeah thats it!
We just rebuilt our 13 second daily driver trans....with 109K miles on it. Lost a bearing in the low/OD planet. clutches and band are still perfect...My 11 second 4L60E is still kicking with a small cooler,Yank 3,800 and N2O luanches all day. 56k miles on it so far
Good luck all and remember ...ALWAYS error on the safe side
It cost less!

I've had one on my on car for 3 years now and have had quite a few on customer cars for 2 years now.
I'd like to see some hard core evidence

WOW....1st time I heard that before. Flyn95's been around awhile so I aint gonna say he's wrong. In fact we probably are. But all these years I have never heard that before. DAMN board.

maybe you should look deeper
As a transmission Tech I see them alot and get e-mails from them. I also wrote parts of the help section for LT1 Edit for Transmssion tuning. My list goes on and customer transmission failures do to. Most just blame the Crappy 4L60E when in fact it is ther own fault it failed.
At our shop we recommend tunning..and we have not lost a unit yet. As long as you are willing to Garuntee your infomation from destruction you can tell thiese people any thing you want.
I on the other hand will give them the truth. The only reason people might get away with it is to add a shift kit. That is not always a savure(SP) either.
I am just recovering from a lost Hard drive or I could give you at least a dozen E-mails that relate back to this problem.
I my self figured it out back in 98 when I had a blower on my car and every Tuner I could find had no clue what I was talking about or why I was having the problems. I was wise enough NOT to kill my trans. It is what I do for a living and under stood there was a problem. It was not till 99 when I started testing LT1 edit stuff and tunning with it that I had accsses to what I need to understand and fix the issues.
The issue has been around for a very long time and if tracked can even relate to a 700R4 and TV adjustments.
it is all TPS or thottle opening to power delivered crossing the transmission calibrated line.

My TPS readings stay in line, so i'm not sure if there is a difference.-Shannon
