i run fine with the screen pulled out actually no difference whatsoever i just see it as an obstruction to a car if its not driven as much as its raced.

Would I do it again . . . maybe . . . maybe not. If I were dyno tuning
then yes . . . otherwise probably not.

You have a dyno tune which is correcting for the missinformation the Granatelli sends.

Tuners can overcome a lot of bad things if the car is in their hands.

On an LT1 non ram air car it is "straight" where the MAF is, so how is the "screen" doing anything?

Take your pick. I am still looking for the one that promises eleventy-thousand HP increase.
Maybe the Mechanically Attached Fitting is the way to go.

The MAF is a hot wire anemometer. To get smooth, uniform flow into the sensor, the standard criterion for the inlet duct design would be to have a straight length of "10 diameters" in front of the sensor. 10 diameters of a 3" meter would be 30-inches, perfectly straight, and of uniform cross-section. The "straight" you refer to is not 30-inches long, and is not uniform in diameter (at least with regard to the factory part). There's a 90-degree bend in the inlet duct about 18-inches in front of the MAF, and the duct is irregularly shaped, to mold around the radiator. When you can't insure uniform distribution with the duct design, you deliberately install a restriction, to redistribute the air flow uniformly across the face area of the meter.

It's far from straight, check out the plastic "tube" that goes from your airbox to the maf, its basically got a right angle cut into it so it can clear the radiator. The same goes for my K&N aftermarket cold air intake system.

Imagine a thin line of smoke being sucked into a glass intake, you'd see it swirling around right after the bend into the maf without a screen. If you do have a screen in it'll be forced to straighten out just before going past the maf sensor.

It may not be reporting numbers way off, and at certain speeds there may be varying degrees of how off it is (And at some speeds it may just be right on) but you're reducing the accuracy of the sensor readings.... and allowing for just one more variable in the equation mix to be off.

I have that same MAF and have had nothing but success with it as far as I am concerned-I have run a best of 13.27@108mph with 2.0+ 60' and its never had any problems since I installed it at 60k(now has 121K)
