Why is that? I've always thought the vented opti's were the better of the two and that the non-vented opti was such a problem that they went to the vented opti....so why is the non vented one so much more in price? Just curious

I'd also like to know. With 60k EXACTLY on my car, I have to start planning for the worst soon!

Im just guessing, but it may be that fewer non-vented optis are manufactureded, which makes production costs higher.

I don't think that you have to start worring about your opti going out anytime soon. I bought my car with 65k on it and have had no problem with it so far (111k on it now)

ya i got 132,000 miles out of my non-vented opti, I wouldn't have replaced it but i had to replace the timing gear cover so i threw a new one on. It did run better with a new one though

I wouldn't be so sure, mine went out at 77k.

Yes, it isn't that difficult. That's where I'm confused....why would you pay more for a non vented opti that is more prone to failure than a vented opti that should last longer and is cheaper

You'd have to change the electical wiring harness, timing cover, cam dowel pin length, get vacuum hoses, and I think that's it. Not sure why it's cheaper.

I've got 93k on mine (non vented).. I always wonder why people swtich to the vented ones.. I've seen more and more people complain about having a lot of problems with their new optis. Im not saying its not better to vent them, but maybe the non original optis are crap? I dunno. Considering a cam and was thinking about what I wanna do to the distributor. If I can make the lt4 set work with the non vented, i'll throw a cap and rotor on and go.
