pressure switch, my friends got so low that it would have the check gauges light come on, put a new switch on it, it reads 40 at idle...

 

right now im running 15w-30 oil and put about a quart of the lucas oil additive in with it.
So there is an oil pressure switch that would make the guage read wrong?

 

It's not a switch (implies on/off function), it's a pressure transducer (sending unit or sensor) that measures the oil pressure and sends the signal to the gauge. If the transducer is failing (gain or offset incorrect) it would provide inaccurate readings.

 

The picture is blocked for me while I'm at work. How low is the gauge?

 

Its reading about 5 to 6psi on his gauge, its at the second little red line.

because your engine is worn out?

 

Change the oil. I would use at least 10W40 or even better yet, 20W50 as the valley is going to get warm before long. See if that helps.
