Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
When putting the front primary slip tube in on the driver's side front, I noticed that the primary is touching that aluminum shield that goes over the brake lines as it runs up the inside rail in the engine bay. I tried to hammer that shield down, but it's flush against the brake lines now and won't go back anymore. What gives?
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
Why? Because hooker lt's suck imho. I have them and they hit the brake lines on the driver's side and barely fit on the pass side, i had to put several small dents in the headers to make them fit on the pass side.
I just left it touching the brake cover though and never had problems.

Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
why is for 2 reasons. One, because our cars are not made for long tube headers from the factory, so it's more difficult for people to make good long tubes for lt1 and ls1 cars. and second, because not all headers/cars are made excactly the same. pacesetters seem to be the worst for consistancy, but all headers aren't 100%. my pacesetters had this problem. i just bent around a little. be an innovater and try and make it work.
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
I've had to be an innovator with this car a lot lately, and honestly I'm getting sick of it. I wouldn't worry about it if it was something I would have known to start out with that I'd have to fabricate/wrestle with etc. However, when I buy something specifically for my car I expect it to fit. If I had known that I'd have to start denting in my primaries I wouldn't have spent the extra $200 or so on the coating that I'm about to chip off
My passenger side is fitting pretty well, and there is plenty of floorboard clearance, but this stupid slip fit primary is the only thing in the way. Oh well, I guess I'll dent the tube in some, and let it rest on that shield a little.......

Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
passenger side fits great. the drivers side usually has trouble with the heat shield thing for the fuel lines. it's expected to have some kind of issues. I do agree though, for 500 bucks they better fit well and serve you a beer.
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
lol, if you are going to add NON factory stuff to your car, you should be prepared for some work. Aftermarket companies can't anticipate every little difference from car to car. So, just be patient with it and go slow... My car is always bein modded, and I rather enjoy making things work. But that is just me. If you don't like doing that, stick to a stock ride. JMHO. I am not trying to be a dick. Just remember that work is involved with every additional non oem part installed.
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
My god, if I could get away with selling parts that don't fit exactly right for $600 a pop, Donald Trump would be my butler. That's what pisses me off about this. And even moreso the fact that I'm gonna smash up my $200 coating in the process of doing Hookers job for them.

i removed teh heat shield and ran some high temp wrap around the lines, theres good clearance between the header and the line

My FLP headers almost installed themselves i just had to hand them the 7/16 wrench they couldnt find it
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
overall, like many said....the headers and cars are all 96% excact these days, but there's alway that 4% in contruction consistancy that is missed and you will always find problem in that. just have to make it work, but you shouldn't have to smash up the header coating. just everything else. part consistancy has come a long ways though from day one. i recently bought a convertible windshield header (those chrome pieces on the top of your windshield on a convertible in the old school days) for my 69 firebird convertible. it came in two pieces, like factory, but it is about a 1/4" off over the one edge. the middle is also a terrible fit. it wasn't a bad piece, as it was from year one, but that just shows you that they were worse for consistancy back then.
Re: Why are my Hooker LT's hitting on the drivers side of the engine compartment??
My Hooker LTs fit fine for the most part...the only fitment issues I had were due to the motor mounts sagging, which caused the headers to rest on the k-member. Once I had the motor mounts replaced, all was well.
