well i just got my motor in my car, replaced the o2 sensors, water pump is fairly new, new coolant w/ watter wetter, 160 stat, wired fans, and i can't figure out why my car is still getting hot, I guess the next thing to replace is the radiator, The car would get hot before the motor was changed, and i figured it had a slightly blown head gasket, but now i know everythign is new and don't know why its getting hot, the temp will get up to 220, 225 before i shut it down and left the fans running to cool it down.......any ideas.......before it gets really hot (cause i'm going to set it on fire)

 

change the water pump thats the problem.

 

Air in the system?

A friend's problem turned out to be his radiator cap was not sealing right... no noticeable leak, he just tried one from another car and everything worked perfectly.

 

Like i said i've already changed the water pump, not long before i changed the motor, so the pump is fairly new

I'll give the cap a shot, I'll try anything at this point.

Anyone else have any ideas

 

Check under your radiator to see if you still have the Air Dam. I know my car when it was off would run into the 200 mark oppossed to 160 the usual. Check the lines you might have air in them ^.

 

yeah tomorrow I'm gonna get a new cap, bleed the system , and see if i can figure anything else out

 

Sure its actually getting hot and the gauge isnt just off? My S10 Blazer told me every day I was overheating into the red for 2 years ...

air and cap would be the first thing, most likely air...if you're down to guessing, start with the smaller things first.

 

HardcoreRM125 - Yeah it's not just the guage, two different aftermarket guages, same result.

fredmr39 - new cap and a system bleed is coming tomorrow

 

i would definetly check for air, and check the general condition of the rad make sure its not bunged up.

 

Pull the thermostat and put it in some water and heat it up to 170 to make sure its opening.

 

Though I know he posted that this isn't the case - that's a good point. When doing headers, I was too lazy to remove the gauge temp sensor in the block and cracked it so replaced it with w/e AZone sells - magically, my coolant was 50 degrees warmer! -proof that this wasn't the actual temp? -my fans never turned on. so ended up at the dealer for OEM part

 

Take the rad to a shop and have it cleaned out then do all the obvious things like cap,air,ect. This way there will be NO doubt if it's cooling or tune.

 

yeah so i changed the cap, bleed the system, and still getting hot, so.......next thing is taking out the radiator, and either getting it cleaned out or just getitng a different one, Hope that works

 

Cleaning is about $50.00,a new one is $100+. Easy choice.
