Why is my car so slow??

Well, ive always wondered why my car is slow.

Ive got a CAI, hooker Long tubes, 3" exhaust, Taylor wires and a 3" cutout, Lt4 knock module, and autolite 103s for nitrous.

My best trap speed I have ever pulled NA is 103 mph (this is with my old mac headers, and at night). Now with the LTs, the car traps at 100 - 102 at best (during the day)........and this is with ET streets. It can only knock off 13.5s - 13.7s now (during the day)

Ive read about people trapping 105 - 108 with these mods.

The track I run at might just be slow. A 96 z28, auto w/3:42s, exhaust and nittos ran a 14.35 @ 95.5 mph

so what gives, why is my car so slow...........or is our track just crap??

I think elevation is around 2200.

Check the usual stuff? Fuel filter?

If the car is running fine, best thing to do is just get the weight down... also, what are your 60ft's?

do you have a stock y pipe? do you have a tune? the et streets will hurt your performance if you dont have enough power to get you down the track.

The elevation itself can make a difference..look up the conversion rates for altitude.

I am at 600ft.. so the numbers I see here are usually pertty good. Not the best someone can do..but pretty damn good.

The Y pipe and exhaust is all 3". The fuel filter was replaced 2 years ago, so it should still be ok. The tune is still stock. Is it possible that my timing is going out since the car is so old?

Re: Why is my car so slow??

my friends T/A with no cat and borla exhaust runs 13.3 hes got 3.73's and drag radials its damn fast with 130,000 miles on it
my formula runs 13.9 at 99 mph with just mac headers and a cat less y pipe hopefully 13.0 with a stall converter and 3.73's yours seems to run good from what ur saying is your SES light on if so i know your timing will not advance or retard that might be a slight loss in a little bit of power

Re: Why is my car so slow??

Here are the times you would run at sea level.
http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/nh...on_factors.php
Just * your elevation from your times

.974 for et
1.024 on mph

So if you run a 13.5 @ 102 at 2200 ft you would run
13.15 @ 104.7 sea level

also, with minor bolt on LT1's ET streets tend to be too much tire. they work great when you spray, but are hurting the n/a times.

Re: Why is my car so slow??

You may be suffering from knock retard--I've been battling this for the last few weeks. Even though I have an LT4 Knock Module, I'm still pulling 9 degrees of spark retard due to false knock. I believe my LT headers are to blame. Get yourself an AKM cable and download a free sample of Datamaster from TTS--that will help you diagnose your problem.
