Why is my car slower this year??

I finally am getting to drag race my Camaro this year. Work has prevented me from racing. Last week at Super Chevy I got a few runs in with my cutout capped. They were in the 13.80 range at 100MPH. Kinda alarming to me since I was nearly .2 and 2 mph faster last year. So tonight I' figure I'm finally gonna get to run my car with the cutout open. Some people felt the reason I never saw any gains from my Hooker LT swap was my Flowmaster exhaust was holding me back. Well surprise, the car is no faster with the cutout open. (So don't listen to the snobs who tell you a Flowmaster catback will slow your car down) Still the car only ran 101 MPH on my first run and didn't run better than 13.75. "Ok it was hot" you'll say.....yea but my car runs the same in cool weather as it does in heat. Well my last run was a horrid 13.87 at barely 100mph in about 68 degree temps. Ok the plugs and wires were new when I did my LT swap last year, I took my knock module out of the curcuit with a resistor last year too. So as it stands now Hooker LT's, a 3" Mufflex Y pipe with 4" collector with a cutout......gives me ZERO performance increase-its what it boils down to. So something is up with this car . The ET's don't bother me much since I'm on crappy street tires and I have 2.73 gears. But the trap speeds tell me I'm seriously down on power. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe change the fuel filter, my car has the original with 51k on it. The car pulls hard to redline and doesn't hesitate or miss-so I assume the optispark is ok. Why in the heck would this car be so much slow this year when all I did was weld in a cutout?? GRRRR

Hey Barry this is PJ, we met at the drags! For those who are about to doubt you, my car has almost the exact same mods and my best of the night was a 13.88 @101.x. That really pisses me off considering the money I spent on LT's and other components.

LOL um my name is Brian not barry.......I think you got confused when i told you I was "Baron" on this board. Anyway didn't get to talk to you later on I'm glad you finally hit the 13's. I'm honestly thinking Hooker LT's are a BAD choice for a stock converter and 2.73 gears.

What was the weather like at the Grove last weekend?

I can almost guarantee that an October trip to Atco or Englishtown will return your two tenths and two mph.

Last August I couldn't break 14.2 and 97 mph at Maple Grove (remember how hot it was last summer?). In Oct. with NO changes to the car, I went 13.9 at over 100 mph at Englishtown. If anything I should have been slower. By Oct. the clutch was slipping (it wasn't slipping in Aug) due to a busy race season.

Barometric pressure, humidity, and temperature play a much larger role than some people realize.

But yeah, change the fuel filter too.

Well all these times were run at Maple Grove even last year, like I said it doesn't matter whether its cold out or hot and humid my car runs the same. BTW about the cat, read my above post..........I'm running Hooker LT's. No cat. Fuel Filter goes in tomorrow. I'm starting to think more and more about this. Hooker LT's are great if you have alot of mods........but not with 2.73 gears and a stock converter.

What makes you think that your car runs the same regardless of temp, barometric pressure and humidity?

How are LT's bad for 2.73s with stock converter?

Check your fuel pressure.
I went to the track Wednesday nite and had basically the same problem your having. Installed LTs and run the same times. I also did some suspension upgrades that I am still working the bugs out of, but my MPH is the same as before my LTs. I changed my fuel filter out cause it was old but I am beginning to think my pump is going bad.
I will be checking the fuel pressure today but I think I will change out the pump and put in a FPR.
I should have picked up some MPH with the LTs, traction not withstanding.

Uh, because it DID run the same times last year no matter what the temp and humidity was.

As far as the fuel pressure, not even sure how I can check that.
