Just a ? ive been meaning to ask since ive been tearing the motor down, the ports to the back of the motor on the heads are filthy, but the front ones still look nice. What gives?

 

If you are talking about the exhaust ports, maybe your manifold/header gaskets are bad (if headers maybe the flanges aren't flat.

Black also denotes rich condition and if the black is NOT on the flanges themselves it may not be a leak, but just too rich a condition in those cylinders for one reason or another --to be determined. JMHO

 

sry, meant to say the intake ports, and the gasket wasnt broken and didnt appear to be leaking.
