Ok, I have a 93 Z28. When I am driving on the freeway, at about 60 mph and I floor it, it seems like it stays in OD instead of kicking down a gear. The RPM's don't jump up to over 5000 like they should. It goes to maybe 3000 or so and doesn't seem to pull very hard.
Again, this is a 93 with a detent cable. I tightened the cable up a little bit but I'm not sure how far to adjust it. I also have a new governor that I am going to install next week.

Thanks stik6shift and warbird!
I'll try that next time I take the car out.
Luckily this week I get to drive my mom's Envoy and I can save some miles on the Z28
I am driving something else whenever I can until the weather gets nicer, plus I just washed it and its still clean!

it doesn't always drop two gears dude... i have an a4 and i know exactly what your talking about... the idea is to bring the rpms into the power range. at some speeds it WILL drop to 2nd gear (thats when it goes over 5000 at highway speeds) however, depending on what speed your going when you WOT it, it will only drop 1 gear say to 3000 or so... thats how its supose to work becuase 3000 is about the MAX torque output rpm... and over 5000 is the MAX hp output

Interesting. So the tach not peaking when I floor it is normal at high speeds (over 65)
