Will Gears REALLY Help me?

I have a 93 Z28 6 Speed with 3.23s and a toasted Posi. now aside from the new posi unit (auburn) will the jump from 3.23s to 3.73s help me at all. This is mostly a street car, sees track time here and there. Will i feel a difference? notice a difference? Im getting the new unit so it comes with gears so i might as well get something different... no?

You definitely will feel a difference. It will be more responsive and fun to drive (and you will have less traction). Whether it helps you at the track will be determined by whether your set-up can benefit from the higher revs available at lower speeds. If the gears were choking it back then you will lower your e.t.

If it is mostly a street car, you will probably be happy, except for the possible decrease in gas mileage.

I never swapped gears in my previous 2 Z28s ('97 M6 and '98 M6) but when I went from the stock 3.27 to 3.73's in my '97 Cobra I noticed a HUGE difference. Probably not as much of a difference with an LT1 car as LT1's have more torque down low but all I can say is the car felt 1000# lighter! You're also running an M6 (believe 6th in your car is 0.62:1) so you won't see much of a decrease in your fuel economy and your revs probably won't go up much either. I'd vote yes! BTW, there's a gear calculator here: Clicky

If you can hook it will help.

Like Shoebox said, it'll be more fun to drive. You'll chirp your tires 2-3 shift because you'll be shifting at a lower speed.

If your rearend is toast you could do it. You will have to re-calibrate your speedo.

awsome, i really wanna do it. I plan on doing it here in the next month (car comes outta storage in 2 weeks sooo) Also how do i recalabrate the Spedo on a 93 car. Madwolf told me it cant be done on the ECU of a 93 car He said something about plastic gears and something else (its in an email somewhere) Where do i get a hold of this stuff and how much will it cost to have it done? or is it EZ nuff where i can do it myself.. i dont mind getting dirty

I dont mean to sound like an *** here, but are you sure that 4.10's is the only thing you did to your car and you knocked off a half second off your et? Are you sure that you just didnt learn how to drive the car better? Like i said, i dont mean to sound like an *** hole, it's just that i've never heard of anyone knocking off that much time by only swapping gears.

well i had the car for a year and half before i did anything to it. i ran 13.7 stock (in my opinion thats pretty good driving for stock)then i put 3.73s then 4.10s. im not saying that i jumped in the car and dropped .5 but i took quite abit of track time to get the launch down but to answer your question yes just with 4.10s and re learning to drive i dropped .5.

your not sounding like an %^&

but ive really had good luck with this car, and its always ran strong.

i have 373 and love them to death. Especially for that street racin i dont do! It is more fun to drive and launches really hard. I have a shift kit in my tranny when i had it rebuilt and it makes a world of difference. Now if i can just get it to hook.

you can get the plastic gears at any GM dealership... just walk in and tell them you need the plastic speedo gears for the 3.73 gear ratio set-up and they'll hook ya up. mine were like $5 each...so not bad for correcting the speedo.

this may be somthing you want to look at first then determine the gears you want.
