Why does my new clutch setup engage at top of pedal throw?
Why does my new clutch setup engage at top of pedal throw?
Just had a Spec Stage 2 Kevlar disc with LT4PP installed with my stock flywheel which was surfaced. The clutch will catch when the pedal is all the way to the top!! is this where it is supposed to be? This is the first time the clutch has been done and the first time flywheel surfaced. I figured since my stock worn clutch engaged at top that a new clutch would be near floor. Any ideas or is this normal?
Thanks

I don't know exactly which aftermarket clutch I've got, but it won't grip very well either until like the top 1/3rd of the pedal throw. Thought it was just me... I'd like to hear some stuff on this.
All SPEC clutchs are like this..I myself like the clutch grabbing closer to the top but you do have to get used to it..
SPEC says they do this so your foot doesnt have to travel so far and you can make quicker shifts since you only have to engage the clutch a little..

Well thats kinda interesting considering my friend with a 97 SS has exact same setup as me and his catches right near the floor. All I know is that I went from a stock worn clutch garbbing at the top of the pedal throw to a new spec stage II that feels no different than my stock clutch and catches at same spot. I love the clutch dont get me wrong just not the feel I was expecting.
That right where you want your clutch to engage, its the fastest for shifting. Right now that where my stocker engages, I'm doing a spec stage 3 next week and am praying that it will engage at exactly the same spot. Some of the cars I've driven have the engagement in like the middle of the travel and I hated it.
I drove a friends 2002 Vette and his clutch grabbed right off the floor and had an almost in or out feel to it and I loved it. Very quick take up with minimal slip and grabbed an inch off the floor. My stock clutch has over 60k on it and when I get a new one I want it to grab off the floor like the vette. Can you adjust your take up with an adjustable master cylinder like the one mcleod sells? Just wondering because I think my stocker could die on me soon........
