Why does car vibrate.

The other day i was coming home from visiting my friend at purdue and i had a long open stretch of road so i decided to wind out my car a little....I dont really remember what MPH the vibration started but by the time i was doing 140 it was bad enough that it started to scare me and i let off. I noticed that when i would push in on the clutch that the vibration would stop. So i came to the conclusion it cant be the driveshaft since it would still be moving. What else could make my car do this. Thanks

Get your driveshaft balanced if you dont already have an aluminum one. Also Ive heard bad U joints can cause this...but im sure its the shaftdrive.

It could be in the clutch assembly itself, i know people who have had similar experiences and it has ended up being the clutch.

140mph?!! Yikes!

Sounds like the input shaft, from the theory that when you pushed the clutch in the vibration stopped....or something clutch assembly related.

But 140mph and no vibes from the driveshaft? Those usually start at about 85mph.

140mph and you're worried about "vibration"??

This is the only mod I know that can fix that:

Get your hands on an LS1 driveshaft or some othe almunmum (sp?) one. Rode in a friend's TA that had a LS1 driveshaft and it made a world of difference. I'm getting one before I have to drive my Z/28 back to NJ. Comeing down that sucker vibrated like no tommarow at 80 and above.

I had bad luck with the LS1 driveshaft. I bought it from someone on the board here and installed it on my car. Ran it about a week (no racing, just light driving, 65mph tops) and the rear universal failed and pretty much broke the end off of the driveshaft.

I installed a new universal on the lt1 driveshaft (it was the part that was failing after 110,000 miles) and it hasn't vibrated (up to about 90mph)....

Like i said, i dont think its the driveshaft because when i pushed in on the clutch, the vibration stopped. Does anyone else think its the clutch assembly?
