Personally I think our LT1's sound pretty good...

Even stock, they sound pretty decent (for a stock exhaust...)

Ive had several older cars with 350s, 66 chevy 2, 69 camaro,701/2 camaro,70 nova. and they all sounded pretty lame with the stock type exhaist, as a matter of fact the 69 and 70 both only had 1 muffler, bith had duel pipes enetering and exiting the muffler but just a single muffler, it wasnt until I added headers and some nice chambered mufflers to my 69 that it sounded BA (it had 10.5:1 comp) My 70 got a pair of Dynomax Ultrflows and it sounded very mean with exh manifolds (9.5:1 comp). Now my nova was a BB but it sounded bad no matter what you put on it, it just had a deeper more aggressive tone (11.2:1 comp).
Speaking of 13. to 1 we recently built a 355 with a set of Pro action heads and a solid roller that with bullets and turndowns with 1 7/8 inch headers sounded like hell was coming at WOT.

Why not?

Sound liking is truly a matter of opinion and completely subjective. I like my exhaust setup, and it sounds completely anti-rice, if there is such a definition.

yeah no kidding...maybe you only have 4 plug wires hooked up....mine sounds better than an old school 350 ...your post had no technical standpoint whatsoever. An old stock 350 in what for example? a pickup? a 78 Camaro stroked with a huge came and dual exhaust?

I NEVER HEARD OF NO OLD SCHOOL MOTORS HAVING MORE COMPRESSION THEN 11.1, AND THATS PRETTY HIGH FOR A STOCK MOTOR. MOST OLD SCHO0L MOTORS ARE 9:1 UP TO 10.5:1. AND IN THE 70S ALL THE WAY TO THE 90S THEY HAD LIKE 8.5:1 COMPRESSION SO ITS DEFINITLY NOT COMPRESSION. IV HEARD SOME PRETTY BAD *** LOW COMPRESSION MOTORS! AN LT1 HAS HIGH COMPRESSION COMPARED TO MOST STOCK MOTORS, THATS ONE OF THE REASONS IT MAKES GOOD POWER FROM THE FACTORY, AND ALSO WHY WE COULD RUN PRETTY BIG CAMS WITH STOCK HEADS!

ALSO NOT TO MENTION, NOTHING SOUNDS BETTER THEN A GM BIG BLOCK (OLDS,CHEVY,PONTIAC) WITH A NICE CAM AND SOME 3INCH PIPES WITH FLOWMASTERS! I LIKE MY LT1 BUT IT DONT COME CLOSE TO THAT. I HAVE A CUTLASS WITH A BAD *** 455 SO I KNOW.

Hey man, I know you can't do what I have done, since your in cali, but my car sounds just like a 69 camaro 350!.

I have hooker headers, custom duals no cats, and twister mufflers, w/ a hotcam.

the other week at a dyno day event, there was a 69 z28 there, and went it started up all my friends and I whipped around b/c we thought someone was starting up MY car! the sound was almost identical.

If someone can host video I 'll get a sound clip of my car.

When I did my exhaust I tried to get the old car sound, and I got as close as you can.

Well, many of chevy's big blocks were above 10.5 to 1.
L78 396: 11.0 to 1
L72 427: 11.0 to 1
L72 427 turbo jet: 11.25 to 1
ZL1 427( ): 12.5 to 1

All of these engines were avaiable in the 1969 Camaro. Don't have specs on the other GM big blocks but I know pontiac 428 was up there. I never said low compression could not sound good, all I said was a high compression engine has a certin sound that just sounds cool, IMO.

I KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING, BUT IM TALKIN ABOUT MORE COMMIN MOTORS. THESE ENGINES YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE SOMEWHAT RARE. NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THEM. IN THE EARLY 70S THEY STOPED MAKING HIGH COMPRESSION MOTORS. SO WHEN HE SAID OLD 350S IM TALKIN ABOUT THE AVEREAGE OLD SCHOOL MOTORS, NOT THE BEST OF THE BUNCH.

The Pontiacs had some compression too like you said, the ra2 and ra4s had 10.75 to 1 and the old SD 421s had 11:1. The big blocks were just flat bad sounding!!!!
